US Close 3 Nov 16: U.S. election and rate nervousness hit markets overnight

US sharemarkets fell on Wednesday with election uncertainty still dominating. The so-called "fear gauge" or the CBOE volatility index (Vix) rose by a further 2.4%. The Dow Jones index ended lower by 77 points or 0.4% after being down 105 points. The S&P 500 index fell by 0.7% and the Nasdaq fell by 48 points or 0.9%.
