Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellness Podcast-Episode 149 Addie Dulaney-Majnaric and the SWFL Vegfest

Welcome and thank you for listening.  It was a pleasure to have my daughter and RD visiting this week for the SW Florida Vegfest held in Bonita Springs.  It was about an hour south of our practice location.  Addie and I along with the team set up an "Our Hearts Beets Strong On Plants" tent and talked about the plant based lifestyle and health benefits.  We offered samples of homemade raw granolo and had the podcast t shirts and office logo technical shirts up for sale.  By the way you can purchase these online atdoctordulaney.com.  The event was well attended both by venders and visitors making for a great day.  It is so inspiring to see people taking charge of their health and the health of their families.  In doing so they are realizing that they deserve and value having a plant based doctor at their disposal.  So it was nice to be available to discuss some of their questions.  Macronutrients such as protein is still bantered around enough to cause confusion.  People are still a bit worried that a plant based diet does not provide enough nutrients and are still looking for bars and supplements when we know that whole foods provides the right amount of macronutrients coupled with micronutrients such as vitamins, minerals and antioxidants in just the right combinations for adequate absorption.  That is the key.  Adequate absorption.  Your body needs to have things in the correct amounts and configurations for adequate absorption.  Vegetables and fruits have provide the fiber and nutrients in just the right combinations.  When we try to breakdown and reconfigure we are presenting foreign combinations that are often in excess of what we need.  My granola was composed of nuts, seeds, and fruits.  I use it as a topping on my morning fruit bowl for a bit of crunch and not the whole breakfast.  It was a pleasure to spend the day talking about plant based nutrition.  I hope you enjoy our summary of what we discussed.
