McLaughlin, a charter member of the Oklahoma State University Robert M. Kerr Food and Agricultural Products Center's Industry Advisory Committee, helped lobby the idea of creating FAPC in Oklahoma to spawn new businesses and keep the products, jobs and money in the state. Appointed to the committee by the President Pro Tempore of the Oklahoma Senate, McLaughlin serves as a mentor to start-up companies.
