Having had over 18 months to process the passing of Michael Hutchence, INXS were presented with the unique opportunity to spearhead the opening of Stadium Australia. The venue that would in the year 2000, be the home of the Sydney Olympic Games.
With ex Australian cricketing icon Dean Jones putting the deal together, INXS were proud to be the lead musical act that preceded the Australian Socceroos playing the FIFA All-Stars on June 12th, 1999 with over 90,000 spectators packing the venue. All they needed was a lead singer!!! Easier said than done.
Enter famed USA soul, pop and R&B vocalist Sananda Maitreya then know as Terence Trent Darby, who some 10 years earlier, “came like a comet” (hello The Waterboys) onto the music scene with his 10,000,000 + Introducing the Hardline debut album. Was this to be a one-off? A rent-try-buy arrangement or some other modus operandi.
Tune in to INXS: Access all Areas to find out all the answers to the above questions and also embrace in what was an unlikely musical union, albeit just for one night!!
Love and peace
