Dysphagia or difficulty swallowing is a common complication in cancer patients and can be associated with the direct effects of the presence of a tumor, surgical resection of the cancer and/or the combined effects of chemo and/or radiation treatment. Tammy Wigginton, a board certified specialist in swallowing and swallowing disorders, shares guidance for recognizing the onset of symptoms and implementation strategies to prevent or mitigate dysphagia effects.
