ආබාධිත ප්‍රජාව සඳහා නියෝජිතයෙකු වීම (Becoming a Community Disability Advocate)

මේ සාකච්ඡාව ආබාධ සහිත පුද්ගලයින් අන් අය මෙන් විවිධ දේවල් කිරීමට දිරිගන්වයි. බොහෝ විට ආබාධ සහිත පුද්ගලයින් ඔවුන්ගේ සීමාවන් නිසා COUNCIL මැතිවරණයට උනන්දුවක් දක්වන්නෙ නැහැ. මේ සාකච්ඡාවේදී COUNCIL මැතිවරණයකට ඉදිරිපත් වූ ආබාධ සහිත අයෙක් ඔහු අභියෝග ජයගත් ආකාරය පැහැදිලි කරනවා. රෝද පුටුවෙන් ගමන් කරමින් ආබාධිත සහ ආබාධිත නොවන ප්‍රජාවන් සඳහා විනෝදාස්වාද පහසුකම් වැඩිදියුණු කිරීම, තොරතුරු සහ රැකියා අවස්ථා සඳහා ප්‍රවේශය ලබා දෙන වැඩසටහන් පුළුල් කිරීමට ඔහු බලාපොරොත්තු වුණා. ඔහුගේ වැඩි අවධානය යොමු වුණේ ආබාධ සහිත පුද්ගලයින් සම්බන්ධයෙන් COUNCIL එකකින් සිදුවිය යුතු පහසුකම් වැඩි දියුණු කිරීමයි.

හදිසි අනතුරකින් ප්‍රදීප් හේවාවිතාරණගේ පාද දෙකම අහිමි වෙනවා. නමුත් ඔහු අභියෝග ජය ගනිමින්, දිගු කලක් ස්වේච්ඡා සේවකයෙකු ලෙස මෙල්බර්න් හි බොහෝ සංවිධානවලට දායක වුණා. පසුව ඔහු COUNCIL මැතිවරණයට ද තරඟ කළා.

Pradeep Hewavitharana is an advocate for people with disabilities and uses a wheelchair himself. In this story, he explains how he contested his local council elections to promote the issue of inclusion and access in his area, and shares how others can do the same. Pradeep hopes to expand recreational, wheelchair-accessible entertainment facilities for the disabled and non-disabled communities, as well as programs that provide access to information and employment opportunities.

About the storyteller

Pradeep Hewavitharana is very politically and socially active in Melbourne, promoting the rights of people with disabilities and encouraging others to do the same. Alongside his volunteering work, Pradeep enjoys playing para-golf and wheelchair badminton.
