Homily for Divine Mercy Sunday: "No Peace Without Mercy"
Robert Godwin, Sr. was brutally murdered on Easter Sunday by the so-called "Facebook Killer" walking home after celebrating Easter with his family. His surviving adult children wanted to embrace the killer and let him know that God loved him anyway. The apostles were embarrassed and ashamed at having denied and abandoned Jesus as he underwent his Passion. Jesus' first words to them in today's gospel was "Peace be with you." How is it possible to experience peace when you are bound by feelings of anger, guilt, grief, and bitterness? It's not possible. But through the divine gift of mercy healing is possible.
