A 2020 Blindspot

 

1 Cor. 8:1-13

 

1. Happy New Year!
2. Conflicts at Corinth
   1. Paul is informed about the Nature of the Conflicts (1 Corinthians 1:10-12)
   2. Paul goes to the Heart of the Conflicts (1 Corinthians 8:1-13)
      1. “We know that we all have ‘knowledge.’” (8:1a)
         1. What kind of ‘knowledge’?
      2. “’Knowledge’ makes arrogant/puffs up, but love edifies” (8:1b)
         1. When you major on your “knowledge”, personal rights and liberty, love becomes a blindspot and the Body is torn apart.
            1. 2 ways the one with ‘knowledge’ is blind (that is, they don’t fully know as they ought to know v.2)
               1. Blind to the ruin of brothers & sisters for whose sake Christ died
               2. Blind to personal danger
            2. When you major on self-sacrificial, agape love, your eyes are opened so you can humbly pursue truth and exercise your freedoms and rights to build up the Body.
         2. “Therefore, if food causes my brother to stumble, I will never eat meat again...”! (v.13)
