US close 4th Jan 2016: US markets closed out 2015 in the red. DOW for 2015 year off 1.2%

US sharemarkets eased on Thursday. Shares in Apple fell by 1.9%, weighing on major indexes. At the close, the Dow Jones index was down by 179 points or 1.0% with the S&P 500 lower by 0.9% while the Nasdaq was down by 58 points or 1.2%. Over 2015 the Dow fell 2.2% with the S&P 500 down 0.7% while the Nasdaq rose by 5.7%.
