Market Close 29 Dec 16: Shares recovered to close at fresh 16-month highs

Despite trading in the red for most of the day, local shares recovered in the final hour of trade to close at fresh 16-month highs. Property trusts trading ex-distribution held the market back most while stronger banks lifted equities.
