As we return to our study in 1st Corinthians, one of the issues Paul confronts in the church is a mistaken view that since God is primarily concerned with spiritual matters and has redeemed the soul, we are set free from the constraints of the physical and it doesn't matter what we do with our bodies. This worldview is still alive and well in our current day where many live by the philosophy of "It's my body, I can do with it as I please." The truth is that God created us in his image both body and soul, and our redemption in Christ is not just spiritual, but physical as well. Therefore, what we do with our bodies actually matters a great deal to God and to our own freedom and joy in life.
