Market Close 6 Jan 17: Sharemarket climbs 1.6% over the week

The Australian share market has recorded a strong start to 2017, with the ASX 200 rising 1.6% over the past four sessions. The index closed flat on Friday, with gains from Telcos & Industrials offset by falls from the Materials and Consumer Staples sectors.
