TMRC 003: Fred Kawano was one of the first teachers to teach African American Studies, he also helped to create the school lunch program, he was placed in Tule Lake internment camp during WWII. Fred is now 93 years of age and sits down with his pal John Reneaud to chat about life. This is the first of two episodes with Fred. In this episode he discusses being raised on a farm in Northern California, the day he heard about the Peril Harbor bombing, renouncing his citizenship, Ronald Reagan and Admiral Spruance of the Battle of Midway, the Army Aircorps and being station in England after the war, Ohio State, USC, teaching in the LAUSD, and taking on sexual predators...
