AM Report 11 Aug 18: Turkish concerns linger but earnings results take centre stage

US sharemarkets rose on Tuesday. There was an easing of contagion fears flowing from the plunge in the Turkish lira. Positive earnings from retailers boosted investor sentiment. Shares in Home Depot had been up 1% after the home improvement retailer beat market estimates with its latest quarterly sales result. But Home Depot finished lower by 0.5%. Shares of Tapestry rose 12% on strong sales of its Kate Sade handbags. The Dow Jones index rose by 112 points or 0.5%.
