US Close 23 Jan 17: US markets rode out the Inauguration day nerves on Friday

US sharemarkets rose on Friday. Thomson Reuters reported that it was the first time sharemarkets rose on Inauguration Day in 50 years. At the close of trade the Dow Jones index was up by 95 points or 0.5%. The S&P 500 index was up by 0.4% and similarly the Nasdaq was up by 15 points or 0.3%. Over the week the Dow fell by 0.3%, the S&P 500 lost 0.2% and the Nasdaq fell by 0.3%.
