Many Christmas songs and movies create a perfect image of romantic love, which can either leave you feeling happy and hopeful, or lonely and isolated. Too much mistletoe, sleigh rides together, and Hallmark "happily ever after" can obscure the greatest love story of all, the story of Christmas.

Jesus is Emmanuel – God come in flesh – God incarnate, love incarnate, the embodiment of God's gift of love for us. God is love. He loves us, and He is the source of all true love. All human love is a mere shadow of His pure, divine, amazing, and unfailing love. No human love can match His love, His care, His concern for us. Today as we celebrate the second Sunday of Advent, we celebrate God's love. Today, as we celebrate the 2nd Sunday of Adven, we focus on love. Emmanuel -- God with Us, means that Jesus brought God's perfect love to us, and He is still bringing God's love to us today.
