The Wan-Mei Deliberative sets the world on fire because no one can stop them. They then unleash biblical plagues on the Blessed Isle. The concept of them being protagonists is still very much in play but hero has been firmly replaced by benevolent-ish tyrant. Then a trip to the underworld is necessary for varying reasons to punish a Deathlord. This is wrapped up by visiting a second Deathlord, Eye and Seven Despair, to visit. Just, you know, see how he's doing or if he needs anything. It's all very neighbourly.
