Vice President of the European Parliament Welcomes Proposals on Holding Referendum on Removing Blasphemy Clause from Irish Constitution

Proposals to hold a referendum on removing the blasphemy clause from the constitution have been welcomed by MEP Mairead Mc Guinness. 

Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan brought the plans on the issue to cabinet today. 

The Vice-President of the European Parliament, Mairead Mc Guinness has responsibility for the Parliament's dialogue with religious and non-confessional organisations on EU policies. 

Speaking in Strasbourg today, the Midlands North-West MEP, said the move would be an important one at an international level.
