The United State of America was one of the first of the "developed nations" to enact a law to protect species from going extinct. In 1973 President Richard Nixon signed the act into law. Why are species STILL going extinct and why are petitions to list species under the ESA law taking so long when we know there is a sixth mass extinction caused by humans taking place?
