Does He Have to Pay for the Date?

This morning the guys talked to someone who says when they go on the first date he likes to split the bill.. Is he wrong for doing that or do you think he's in the right? Plus the guys were talking about a celebrity being a good person and donating some serious money which lead to Wood calling himself a good person.. but not to the same degree.
