Sally Field was still in her teens when she became a national celebrity with two silly TV series in the 1960s, "Gidget" and "The Flying Nun." It took her awhile to shake that pop cultural image and establish herself as a serious actor. HCC film professors Marie Westhaver and Mike Giuliano talk about the admirable evolution of Sally Field's career in this podcast episode. The career breakthrough happened when she received an Emmy Award for "Sybil" (1977), and then appeared in a number of Hollywood movies. Sally Field won the Academy Award as Best Actress for "Norma Rae" (1979) and then won a second Academy Award as Best Actress for "Places in the Heart" (1984). She has continued to give notable performances, especially as Mary Todd Lincoln in Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" (2012). As you can tell, Marie and Mike really like Sally Field.
