The European Parliament will have to ratify the Brexit trade deal in early 2021.
They had hoped to vote on the deal by the end of this year but it was struck too late on Christmas eve for them to do so.
The deal will be ‘provisionally applied’ by the EU to avoid a no-deal outcome.
However Green party MEP Ciarán Cuffe says the provisional approval of the deal is not good.
