Morning Report 9 May 19: Volatile session for markets ahead of US-China trade talks

US sharemarkets ended mixed ahead of China-US trade talks. US President Donald Trump tweeted on trade talks that China was "now coming to the US to make a deal". Still, Reuters noted "the US government said in its official journal that it would raise tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods to 25% on Friday. China's commerce ministry later said it would have to take retaliatory measures if US tariffs were raised." After being up 153 points, the Dow Jones ended higher by just 2 points or less than 0.1%. The S&P500 index lost 0.2%. And the Nasdaq index fell by 20 points or 0.3%.
