The Bible Rediscovered:
Reading Isaiah with the Great Tradition
Much modern preaching, influenced by liberal theology, is so committed to a minimalist version of grammatico-historical exegesis that only the meaning intended and fully comprehended by the original human author is valid. The great tradition of treating the Bible as a supernatural book written by one author with a fuller Christological meaning has effectively been lost. We have much to learn from our spiritual forefathers as we seek to be faithful in our exegesis, and in our preaching. This special day of lectures on Thursday 17th October, open to students and local pastors, will look to the great tradition with a particular focus on the prophecy of Isaiah.
Dr Craig A. Carter is Professor of Theology at Tyndale University College and Seminary in Toronto, Ontario. He previously served as Vice president and academic dean at Crandall University and at Tyndale University College. He is the author of a number of books, including Interpreting Scripture with the Great Tradition: Recovering the Genius of Premodern Exegesis.
This is lecture one of Dr. Carter's special lectures at the Pastors' Academy.
