Myth of the Participation Ribbon

In a culture that concerns themselves with mitigating short-term pain with a participation ribbon more than spurring growth, we rob ourselves and future generations of developing diligence. When nobody loses, nobody wins, and nobody really benefits. What benefit is that in the long run?
