Dr Lombard strongly believes that there is a huge link between underlying infections in the body (especially gastrointestinal bugs like C. Difficile) and neurodegenerative diseases. These bugs are evolutionarily designed to be resistant to everything we throw at them, including the latest antibiotics, and the discussion around this is fascinating!

“Medications in general, particularly in psychiatry, are purely symptomatic – I mean that they’re not addressing the cause of a psychiatric problem, they’re basically just addressing an effect. At best, these medications only alleviate symptoms, so I think that we need to be open to what meds can do and what they can’t do. And what they can cause as problems as well. Which is why we need a collaborative integration.”
