Hi this is Lou Peck from the International Bunch and I’m going to talk to you about Open Access in under 60 seconds.
What is Open Access Publishing?
If you are looking to publish a book, article or other type of publication with immediate free access to everyone electronically – you use OA. Publishers recoup costs through examples like Article Processing Charges (AKA APCs), donations, advertising etc. Your work could have a Creative Commons license to help promote reuse.
There are different types of OA like:
- Platinum – also referred to as Diamond or Universal, where you are not charged to publish OA
- Gold – your processing charges are funded by organizations, institutions or funders
- Green – you place a self-archived copy of the publication in your own repository for sharing
- Delayed – it has an embargo – e.g. 6 or 12 months
