Embracing mortality vs. Pursuing Immortality

As humans, we are all at some point going to reach the end of our lives on this Earth. Since it is inevitable, should we embrace our mortality or pursue accomplishing something that will have a lasting effect even after our deaths, making us, to some degree, immortal?
