US Close 12 Aug 16: US markets hit record helped by oil up 4% and retail stocks.

US sharemarkets posted solid gains on Thursday with the Dow Jones, the S&P 500 index and the Nasdaq all finishing at record highs. The energy sector was boosted by a near 4.5% lift in the oil price. And shares in department store Macy's rose by 17.1% after reporting strong earnings figures. The Dow Jones rose by almost 119 points or 0.6% with the S&P 500 index up by 0.5% and the Nasdaq gained almost 24 points or 0.5%.
