Morning Report 14 Oct 19: Markets lift on “phase 1” trade deal

US sharemarkets were higher on Friday. President Trump said that the US and China had come to a substantial phase-1 trade deal, reaching agreement on intellectual property, financial services and big agricultural purchases. The Dow Jones rose by 320 points or 1.2%. The S&P500 index rose by 1.1% and the Nasdaq gained 106 points or 1.3%. Over the week the Dow rose by 0.9%, the S&P 500 rose 0.6% and the Nasdaq gained 0.9%.
