The man in this encounter with Jesus, is commonly referred to as the rich young ruler. He had three positive things going for him: youth, wealth, and accomplishment. Things that people all over the world prize and desire. Most people all over the world would have traded place with this guy without a thought. Yet he was still missing what matters most, and he knew it, and that was what brought him to Jesus that day. Jesus words to him, “one thing you lack,” still speak to us today about letting go of the things that are hindering us from the one thing missing, the one that matters most.
