Vincent Alvarez, President, New York City Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO|Scott Slawson, President, United Electrical Radio and Machine Workers Local 506

Vincent Alvarez, President of the New York City Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO, joined the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and discussed the push to organize non-union workers in New York City by stressing the financial benefits of joining a union. He also spoke about the need to protect immigrant workers, who account for 80 percent of on-the-job deaths. 

 

Scott Slawson, President of the United Electrical Radio and Machine Workers Local 506, appeared on the America’s Work Force Union Podcast and addressed the issue of train derailments. He believes the railroad carriers are more concerned about their bottom line than safety. Additionally, Slawson touched on the need for better industry oversight by Congress.
