Mid-Session 8 May 18: Local shares lift for 7th time in 8 days

The Australian market is improving slightly at lunch and remains near the best levels in three months. Strong gains from the banks are keeping the market positive while sluggish retail trade data has pushed the Aussie dollar a little lower.
