Brothers Grimm’s “Maid Maleen” Summary Pt. 1: Love Denied and Locked in a Tower (Clip)

A prince and Maid Maleen love each other, but she is betrothed to someone else by her father.  He locks her up in a tower for seven years; time is kept by the diminution of their food stores.  She cannot hear her love when he comes by.  Eventually, they are able to make a hole in the wall, but they emerge to a desolate kingdom.  No one of their compatriots is to be found, and she and her servant leave their homeland.
