As a young, Irish immigrant in the late 1800's "Jolly" Jane Toppan faced many hardships. Sold into indentured servitude as a child, Jane went on to become a respected and well paid nurse, which is where her lust for death bloomed. What could have been an inspirational story of perseverance in the face of xenophobia took a dark turn. To this day it is unknown how many people she murdered, but it could be in the hundreds.
