On this day in labor history, the year was 2012. That was the day release of flammable vapor led to a fire at the Chevron refinery in Richmond, California. A Level 3 Community Warning System Alert was issued for the cities of Richmond, San Pablo and North Richmond. Toxic black smoke could be seen for miles while the fire burned for hours.
