Mid-Session 18 Oct 18: Energy stocks slump after oil prices fall 3% overnight

The local sharemarket has lost ground in early trade, snapping a two-session recovery. The ASX 200 is down 21 points or 0.4% to 5,918 - weighed down by losses in the energy and materials sectors.
