Wiregrass Daily News sat down with Coach Carl Reynolds and Aaron McCreight to chat about this Saturday’s home match—and it’s shaping up to be more than just a game.
What started as a lighthearted April Fools’ joke about renaming the Dothan Dragons the “Circle City Scratchers” has turned into a fun and meaningful way to support Wiregrass Pets, a new animal shelter coming soon to Dothan.
The action starts early at Rip Hughes Stadium. Pet adoptions kick off at 5:30 p.m., gates open at 6:00, and the match begins at 7:30. Before the game, fans can meet some adorable adoptable puppies, and anyone who brings pet supplies—like food, leashes, or toys—will get a free ticket.
On the field, the Dragons will be rocking special blue and black jerseys made just for the night. Those jerseys are already up for auction on the team’s social media, with all proceeds going to the shelter.
Coming off two wins, the Dragons are fired up and ready to keep the streak alive. Organizers are expecting the biggest crowd of the season, and there’s plenty more in store: tasty concessions, a Share a Coke booth to customize your own can, and fireworks to wrap things up after the final whistle.
Whether you’re there for the soccer, the puppies, or just a good time, Saturday night is set to be one to remember.
