In our readings from the book What is Man? Adam, alien or ape? we now visit the first part of Chapter 2 in which we think about the origin of the universe and Man's place in it. The atheist asks "if God made the universe, who made God?" and argues that the question is unanswerable. We explain why the simple answer "no one made God because he made everything" is not sufficient in itself. However, the atheist also has an unanswerable question to deal with in insisting that all causes must be physical in nature, since it commits him to an infinite regress of physical causes.
