David is sharing powerful principles this morning on the results which come from living according to God’s plan, and the problems which come when we take our lives into our own hands.

In scripture, we see examples in the lives of Jacob and Esau of what happens when you take God’s plan into your own hands. We often see people who promote themselves into positions before God does, and as a result, they don’t have His favour resting upon them.

There was a prophecy recorded in scripture that “the older shall serve the younger” and this was intended for Esau to serve Jacob. However, when Jacob bought the birthright of Esau, he became as the older son.

Suddenly, God’s plan for Jacob to be served by Esau was reversed. He promoted himself outside of God’s plan. The result was a life of running, toiling and struggle.
