In this week's episode, we dive a little deeper into cross-addiction and open up the conversation about the differences between a reaction, emotionally triggered and driven, and a response, balanced and mindfully driven.
Cross-addictions can come from any aspect of your life. We know there are three spheres in our lives: Work, Self, and Relationships and the cross-addiction occurs when we put more focus on one of those to the detriment of the other two. Addiction is the repeated behavior of something even though it is causing us harm. When a focus in our lives becomes an obsession and begins to harm us then we have crossed over from prioritized and focused to addicted.
An emotional reaction to someone else's actions and behaviors is not a good thing. Reacting comes from the emotional child and is not an appropriate behavior for anyone, least of all those of us focused on a positive, forward-moving addiction recovery program.
A response derives from the emotional adult in us all and is seeded in mindfulness and emotional control. When we respond to other's actions and behaviors from this centered beingness in ourselves we are in control of us, we take full responsibility for ourselves - and we take a huge, positive step forward in our addiction recovery.
Thank you so much for listening and being a part of this wonderfully supportive community. No longer are we living in the shadows!
