Sinn Fein MEP, Matt Carthy believes this is a defining period for the island of Ireland for a generation.
His comments come as the British cabinet meets in London to discuss the draft Brexit Withdrawal Agreement.
It is understood to contain a UK wide backstop aimed at ensuring there will be no return to a hard border in Ireland when Britain leaves the EU.
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has told the Dail, the Good Friday Agreement will be protected as a result of the deal.
