US Close 8 Jul 16 : Markets stat to focus on results rather than global instability

US sharemarkets were mixed on Thursday. Investors were in a holding pattern ahead of the key non-farm payrolls data out on Friday. Energy stocks fell on the back of lower oil prices. Exxon Mobil lost 1.2% while Chevron gave back 1.5%. The S&P Energy sector fell 1.1%. Costco (up 4.9%) was the best performer on the Nasdaq and S&P after reporting strong June sales results in the prior session. PepsiCo's rose 1.5% after reporting better-than-expected second-quarter profit and raised its full-year forecast. The Dow Jones index fell by almost 23 points or 0.1%. The S&P 500 index fell by 0.1% while the Nasdaq rose by 18 points or 0.4%.
