I hear people ask all the time "how do you know what to keep?" when we are looking at their children things. There are so many memories attached to every item! Well, then there are the overgenerous relatives that don't understand why we aren't saving everything they ever bought our children....
When it comes to their artistic drawings and every scrap of paper and broken toy, I save a photo of them playing with it, but broken things that aren't usable are clutter, not treasures! So let that go, and savor the memories!! Save the pieces of art that show their personality, or a glimpse into who they were in that season of time, but all that broken macaroni art can go.

If you need even more boundaries, get a single container with a lid and save all your favorites in there, but the trick is, it has to fit ALL of it in that one container for their entire childhood, so make decisions regularly and purge as you go.
