US Close 14 Dec 16: DOW up 115pts overnight, SPI set for a lift today.

US sharemarkets rose to fresh record highs on Tuesday, as the US Federal Reserve began its two-day FOMC meeting. Eight of the major 11 S&P sectors were higher, with the technology sector rising by 1.6%. Apple share rose by 1.5% and provided the biggest boost to S&P and Nasdaq. At the close of trade, the Dow Jones index was higher by 115 points or 0.6%. The S&P 500 index was up by 0.7%, while the Nasdaq rose by 51 points or 1%.
