The Independent MEP Marian Harkin says the EU-Canada trade deal exposes Ireland to too much liberalisation of services. The Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement was approved yesterday by MEPs. However, Marian Harkin says Ireland did not do enough to protect certain sectors from being liberalised by market forces. Those sectors could include the likes of water provision and health care services. The Midlands North-West MEP says Ireland lost out on the opportunity to safeguard certain sectors from competition.
