This week, Felicia speaks with Dr. Kameelah Phillips about systemic racism present in our health care systems. The ladies discuss a vast array of issues that have led to the systemic racism in the healthcare system, along with the changes that need to be had. Dr. Phillips provides several examples of systemic oppression and racism that have occurred, from the Tuskegee experiment, the Tulsa race riot, and the book “Even the Rat Was White” by Robert V. Guthrie, which looks at how ingrained racism is to the subconscious mind. Dr. Phillips shares her knowledge with us to demonstrate how the entire healthcare system is broken, and how each individual has to be aware and conscious of this in order to make our society an specifically, in this case, the healthcare system, inclusive space for all to better serve one another.
