The God Shot: 1 John 3:16

"This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters." (1 John 3:16)

How does love reveal itself? One of the ways our love for someone reveals itself is in our willingness to inconvenience ourselves for the one we love. If I'm not willing to lay down my preferences for someone else, I certainly wouldn't lay down my life for them. But that's exactly how Jesus revealed his love to us. The reality is that His love will always supersede ours. His love isn't tainted by sin and selfishness because of His great love for the Father. Jesus laid down His desires to fulfill the Father's plan and because of His great love for us, God the Son laid down His life paying the debt for our sins and bridging the gap between us and God the Father.
