Market Close 1 Oct 18: ASX 200 slips as banks suffer heavy losses

The local sharemarket has kicked off the new week and the new month in the red, held down by a hefty 1.3% decline in the financial sector amid calls for the banking royal commission to be extended. The healthcare sector was the lone improver.
