Market Close 21 Dec 18: volatile session sees local shares end the week lower

It was a volatile finish to the last full trading week of the year, the ASX 200 tumbled for a fourth straight session by 38 points or 0.7% to a 2 year low and below 5,500. A lift in materials helped the index off the lows for the day.
